In 2004 a significant new international offshore regatta was conceived. By the end of summer 2006 the BALTIC SPRINT CUP had completed two events, visited 11 ports in 9 countries and had 77 starters. Principal language for race organization is English and an ISAF international jury is appointed.
Backing the Baltic Sprint Cup 2005 was NORD/LB Norddeutsche Landesbank, Hanover in association with the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein of Hamburg. The event had a great send-off from Sandhamn, Sweden, celebrating the 175th anniversary of the Royal Swedish Yacht Club and sailed seven legs over 1,200 miles via Helskinki, Tallinn, Riga, Klaipeda, Gdansk, Copenhagen to Rostock / Warnemünde.
The 2006 BALTIC SPRINT CUP under the aegis of the Baltic Sprint Cup Committee, Copenhagen, was supported by Bank DnB NORD, port sponsors at Aarhus and Copenhagen. Another celebration ? this time the 100th anniversary of Stavanger Seilforening ? gave the event a memorable start from the heart of the pictureesque port - to Gothenburg, Aarhus, Copenhagen and another magnificent finale at Rostock/ Warnemünde.
